2012 Interior Trim Paint

2012 Interior Trim Paint

Part #:

In 2011 Jeep changed the interior and added some silver accents to the new panels inside. A few people have pulled these and painted them the same color as the outside of the Jeep. I decided that I would just paint in the letters on the vents and the grab handle.

Additional Parts:
Paint of your Choice

Tools Needed:
Small flat tip screwdriver
6mm Allen wrench
Trim Removal Tool

Vent Painting:
1. Feel inside the vent for a small square hole. The hole will rotate with the vent diffuser.
2. Position the small hole at about the 1 o'clock position in the vent. It will line up with a similar hole in the housing.
3. Insert a small flat tip screwdriver up into the hole at an angle. Pull up on the end of the screwdriver so that the tip press the release on the locking tab for the vent.
4. While holding the screwdriver, rotate the vent counter clockwise (to the left).
5. Pull the vent out.

Grab Handle Painting:
1. Remove the two screws from either side of the insert with a 6mm Allen Wrench
2. Carefully pry out the insert with a trim removal tool. Work it out slowly, it's in a piece of rubber that doesn't really want to let it go.

Door Trim Painting:
1. Carefully pry out the insert with a trim removal tool. Work it out slowly, it's in a piece of rubber that doesn't really want to let it go. The Allen heads are fake in this piece.
Removed. You can see the tabs that hold it into the door.

Miscellaneous:
While I was at it, I filled in the Jeep name on the gas cover.

Common Sense and Safety should always be observed when working on your vehicle or doing modifications. Jackstands, wheel blocks, disconnecting the battery are a few of the basic safety precautions that should be used and may not be mentioned in the write ups on this site. You are responsible for your own installation, these write ups are a helpful guideline and should not be taken as an official installation instruction. My write up may be different from the kits currently out there, so alwasy double check the manufacturers installation instructions when installing anything. I try to keep the site up to date with changes that have occured as I discover them, but may not have the latest unless someone lets me know. If you feel that an install is above your capabilities after reading my write ups, I recommend getting together with a club and getting some help. Only a few times have I needed to employe some actual help from a shop to get something done. Usually welding or A/C work. While I have spent many years working on mechanical systems, I am not an expert, nor do I pretend to be one. I hope these write ups have been useful to you.
